Timothy Frerichs

Tim Frerichs appeals to those interested in botanical subjects and drawing as a tool of observation, and those who value the art of the line, calligraphic or representational. Tim's drawings, collages, and prints clearly follow from his interest in nature - especially botany- and attitudes pertaining to it. This interest extends into the categorization of plants. Tim writes in his most recent artist statement: "...I explore object gatherings (collecting/collections) for information and the creation of knowledge."

Born in Forest City, Tim earned his B.A. with Departmental Distinction at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, then took an M.A. at the University of Iowa and stayed on to earn is M.F.A. in 1991. He went to the Universitaet Osnabrueck in Germany on a Fulbright Fellowship. He was a Visiting Artist at Truman State University in Kirksville, and was an Assistant Professor of Art at Central College in Pella from 2002 to 2006. He now is an Associate Professor of Art at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Frerichs has shown work over 40 exhibitions, including the Fulbright Invitational in Washington D.C.; the Internationale Scuala Graphica Gallery (Venice, Italy); the Kupernicus (St. Paul); the Central Exchange Gallery (Kansas City); Roy Boyd Gallery (Chicago); Senoma State Gallery (San Francisco); Kunst Silo, Universitaet Paderborn (Paderborn, Germany); and in many galleries in Iowa. Institutional owners of his work include: Smiley Investment, Inc., Little Rock, Ark.; University of Iowa, Iowa City, Wellmark Inc. Corporate Headquarters, Des Moines and both the Universitaet Osnabrueck and Universitaet Paderborn in Germany.
