Betsy Margolius
Born in Brooklyn, Betsy Margolius studied at the Art Students' League, University of Oslo, Boston School of Fine & Applied Arts, and University of New Mexico before settling down in Denver to take her MFA in Printmaking at the University and to establish her studio there.
Nature is paramount in Betsy's mixed media creations and oil paintings. Using a combination of watercolor, monotype, oil paint, and oil pastel, she makes multi-paneled, panoramic works that present a colorful, abstracted view of the natural world. As combinations of images and juxtapositions of place, her large works suggest movement, transitions, shifting perspectives and sizes and growth and change - all within an ordered and harmonious whole.
Deliberately decorative on a large scale, Margolius is rooted in western principles with conscious affections and exceptional aptitudes for Japanese patterns and motifs. She is highly accomplished in her application of a technique, which would seem difficult and unusual for the large scale to which she applies it.
